BlogPaws 2011 Be the Change Panel: Little Book of Big Change

By Saturday afternoon, with Hurricane Irene passing by DC, the 2011 Be the Change for Pets speaker panel was at half it's number. But Dr. V (Jessica Vogelsang) and Dorian Wagner remained to provide full strength information and lead a lively discussion with the stalwart pet bloggers in attendance.

Now, even if you had to leave early or couldn't make it at all, you can access the learning, experience, and resources our Be the Change pioneers have collected into the BlogPaws Little Book of Big Change.

Dorian was rewarded for her tenacity, in the end. She was able to complete the AAHA Healthy Pet Scavenger Hunt held during the conference and then won the drawing for an iPad2 at the closing ceremonies.

Looks like she was glad she stayed! ;-D

Time for another BlogPaws' Be the Change for Pets project! R U Ready?

We're heading into May and we know it's time for spring cleaning. Let's do it up right and clean out our closets for a good cause!

Join us, pet bloggers and pet lovers from the world over, on May 18 -25th- as we host the world's FIRST virtual rummage sale (garage sale to some of you) to help pets. You can participate from your own home...and you'll benefit your favorite local shelter or rescue group. Don't have a favorite shelter? Find one on Petfinder.com.

How to Participate

Post on our Facebook wall to let us know you've accepted the challenge, then share it with all your friends, readers, relatives, pets, and anyone else who will listen. (mailman? UPS delivery person? person in line at the grocery store?)

Be the Change for Pets: Paws for Japan

It's situations like the earthquake and tsunami in Japan that remind us how precious - and volatile - life is.  One minute you could be happily petting your cat or dog on your couch, and the next, homeless, injured, unable to locate loved ones, or worse.

BlogPaws Be The Change for Pets is committed to taking action to help relief efforts for animals in Japan. One of our community members, Cathy King, is the founder and executive director of World Vets, an organization dedicated to providing veterinary aid worldwide.  The first World Vets responder deployment is en route with supplies to Japan to meet up with a coalition of Japanese animal welfare groups.

To assist World Vets in their extremely important work, Be the Change for Pets is asking the online pet community to help raise funds and awareness for the World Vets efforts.

Today, Thursday, March 17, 2011 is Paws for Japan Day.

How can you help?

Santa Paws: Help the Elves Helping Shelter Pets!

Check out what Dorian Wagner and her BlogPaws Buddies a/k/a "The Santa Paws Elves" are doing again this year!

Last year, the Santa Paws Drive raised over $7,000 in donations to provide pet toys, treats, and donations for six shelters around the world.

Adopt a Less Adoptable Pet Challenge Totals!

It's been a while since our Adopt a Less Adoptable Pet Week challenge, but that doesn't make this post any less exciting... We have the grand totals for the money raised for Blind Cat Rescue and Sanctuary and Grey Muzzles Organization!

You fabulously fantastic Be-the-Changers put up an incredible 232 posts in a single week to try and bring awareness and find homes for less adoptable pets! 232!

And since several BlogPaws sponsors stepped up and offered to donate money to our two charities for each one, that means that together all of your amazing efforts raised a total of $2,820! This was split between the two places, and we couldn't be happier to support such great organizations!

That will surely make a lot of furry friends happy!

Our First "Adopt a Less Adoptable Pet Week" Success Story!

I'm sitting here wearing my "I am the change" BlogPaws T-shirt and grinning from ear to ear -- we're only a week into or "Adopt a Less Adoptable Pet Week" challenge, and we already have our first success story!

Sparkle the Designer Cat posted yesterday about Sophie, an FeLV-positive kitty living at Marley's Fund in North Carolina. It was a sweet little interview that really showed of Sophie's personality... and it worked! A nice couple stepped up to adopt not only Sophie, but her best friend and fellow FeLV-positive kitty, Cher!

This, my bloggie buddies, is what it's all about. This is why we're here. This is why we're taking the time, the love and the effort to put these beautiful less-adoptable pets out there for more eyes to see, and for people to fall in love with.

Sparkle was the change for Sophie -- and YOU all can be the change for many others!

Today officially kicks off our "Adopt a Less Adoptable Pet Week" challenge! Between now and Sept. 25, we challenge YOU to blog about a less adoptable pet and help spread the word about these (as Dr. V. put it) seriously adoptable pets!

Plus, your post will not only help the animal you feature, but many, many more -- some of the BlogPaws sponsors have stepped up to donate money for each post that gets posted! The money we rack up will be split between Blind Cat Rescue (blind cats make purrfect pets, too!) and the Grey Muzzle Organization (love the oldies!).

New Be the Change Challenge!

We're excited to announce our latest Be the Chance for Pets challenge -- Adopt a Less-Adoptable Pet Week Challenge.

Senior pets, pets with medical problems, victims of breed prejudice, shy pets, special needs pets... they all deserve forever homes, too. These pets that deserve a second glance, a second chance.

During the week of Sept. 19-25, we're challenging pet bloggers to join forces for Adopt a Less-Adoptable Pet Week and highlight those pets who are usually overlooked in shelters and rescues.
